TRANSFLO Express Today Leads in the Field it Pioneered

This year, 2012, marks the 10th anniversary of truck stop scanning that began with the launch of TRANSFLO Express truck stop scanning by Pegasus TransTech in 2002. TRANSFLO Express accelerated the speed of business across the entire industry. Today, because of TRANSFLO Express, most transportation documents are processed within minutes or hours versus days or weeks as they were ten years ago.

In 2002, Bob Helms, then the newly appointed chairman and managing director of Pegasus TransTech, was an advocate of truck stop scanning. He believed submitting documents electronically and going paperless, would revolutionize the industry. The concept was simple. After completing a delivery, a driver presents delivery documents at the fuel desk of a participating truck stop. A trained attendant scans the papers, which are electronically transmitted to the carrier or broker for billing. The original documents are returned to the driver along with a confirmation receipt. Carriers or brokers no longer need to wait weeks or even days for PODs to arrive and can bill and collect that much sooner. Accordingly, drivers can get paid faster.

Over the last decade, TRANSFLO Express has evolved both technologically and geographically. Pegasus TransTech invested heavily in redundant data centers that led to 10 years of reliable, high availability of service to customers.

TRANSFLO Express began operating at just a few Pilot Travel Centers in 2002. Today, TRANSFLO Express extends to more than 800 truck stops across the United States and Canada, including all Pilot, Flying J, Love’s Travel Centers and many independent locations.

At the initiation of truck stop scanning, skeptics predicted that it could not possibly work. As more and more carriers implemented the service, perceptions changed. The adoption rate of this new service continued to increase as carriers witnessed Pegasus TransTech’s focus on quality, availability to drivers and ease of use. TRANSFLO Express customers were immediately gaining efficiency in their back office operations and speeding cash flow. Within a year, TRANSFLO Express created a new vision that inspired many positive changes in the industry.

Beginning service in 2002, Maverick Transportation became the first and most long-standing TRANSFLO Express customer. Mike Hufnagel, then V.P of Information Technology at Maverick Transportation said “We immediately recognized the value of same-day access to delivery documents and the back office efficiencies of receiving driver paperwork electronically.” Mike not only signed up for the service, he also launched the first terminal scan kiosk solution. John Culp, CFO of Maverick Transportation added, “We are very pleased with our investment in TRANSFLO Express. In addition to speeding up our billing process, we have reduced driver problems with lost paperwork. Plus we can now provide proof of delivery to our customer within hours of a shipment reaching its destination.”

The success of TRANSFLO Express led directly to more recent breakthroughs. Following the TRANSFLO Express precedent, Pegasus TransTech introduced TRANSFLO Now!, which enables a driver to scan and send documents from virtually anywhere using a computer and any TWAIN compatible scanner.

More recently, the evolution of electronic document submission continued with introduction of document imaging apps for smart phones. Using TRANSFLO Now! Mobile, built-in cameras capture document images, which are then transmitted to the carrier or broker over the phone’s wireless service. TRANSFLO Now! Mobile has been an instant hit.

“Developing and implementing TRANSFLO Express has been a very exciting and rewarding experience,” said Bob Helms. “The great team here at Pegasus TransTech has made sure that TRANSFLO Express images are crisp and legible, and that the service itself is convenient, affordable, and absolutely reliable. We appreciate the confidence so many place in TRANSFLO Express every day.”
